Motorcycle Clothing
Does the thought of winter fill you with dread? No more late summer evening ride-outs or weekend road trips with just a tent and a toothbrush. If you’re one of those people who hibernates over winter and doesn’t bring the motorcycle out until the first signs of spring, then maybe all you need is the correct motorcycle clothing.
In this blog, we’ll take you through the equipment you’ll need to head out on the open road in winter with comfort and in style!

Motorcycle Boots
Have you thought about using moto-cross boots? Many riders use these types of boots as they tend to be warmer and drier than most road boots. However if you’re budget doesn’t stretch to racing boots, find a boot that has gore tex lining, and has as few seams as possible to stop any water getting in. Even better, look for a boot that has internal zips.
Motorcycle Gloves
In winter, the most important thing is for your hands to stay warm – particularly when riding in adverse weather conditions. Although you may be able to get away with silk lining or an extra pair of thin gloves with your normal motorbike gloves in early winter, when there’s frost in the air or it’s blowing a gale you’ll need to take things up a notch.
A thick glove, with a minimal amount of seams and Thinsulate lining will give you ample protection in the midst of winter.

Layer, Layer, Layer
There’s a reason why Arctic explorers and skiers wear lots of layers – layers provide trappings of air which provide warmth. The more layers you have, the warmer you’ll be. You don’t need the latest gore tex clothing (although if you have the budget for it – go for it!), just your leather jacket, a few layers and a waterproof / wind-proof outer jacket will do the job.
Guaranteed warmth with Electric!
For guaranteed warmth, cosiness and comfort you can’t beat electric. Although not cheap, heated gloves, boots, vests and handlebar grips will make your winter riding experience an absolute pleasure, all winter long.

Keep Your Neck Warm
Motorcycle helmets will provide protection for your head, but don’t forget your neck. A silk balaclava provides great protection from the cold as it stops heat escaping from your head and neck and is also thin enough so that you can still put your motorbike helmet on.
If you don’t fancy a balaclava, a good quality neck warmer will keep you warm and cosy. Whichever one you buy, make sure it’s the right thickness to still tuck into your jacket.
Motorcycle Leathers
If you don’t have the budget for a top-end waterproof leather suit, take a look at a mid-range two piece fabric zip that has plenty of adjustment on the legs, arms and waist so that you can layer up or down depending on the temperature.
Alternatively for those on a lower budget, buy a padded waterproof and windproof outer suit that will keep you warm and dry.
